Plaster ceiling up, and some lights.

Lights. We got 15 pieces of 4inch square downlights, and 8 pieces of 6inch square downlights, all with single tube, initially to save cost. They were installed last week, but to our shock, they are way too dim. So so upset. Few things to consider:

1. Upgrade the 4inches to 6inches.
2. Double the bulbs
3. Lights are too white. Does not jive with the hanging lights on normal bulbs which are too yellow. May have to change all the bulbs to cool white.
4. Change the normal bulbs from the hanging lights to cool white.
5. Add more downlights.

Problem problem. I spoke to our light supplier just to keep her in the know coz very likely I will need to add more lights and bulbs. She suggested to keep to the white lights, and add to double bulbs. I may also have to consider option no. 4.

Contractor will look at the place again today and let me know how to rectify this. All my furnitures, except for a couple of rugs and few furnitures, are confirmed. Once the lights are up, I can contact my curtain lady who did all our previous units.

What a productive day

Today MIL helped watched the kids whilst Hubby and I quickly run some errands for 226. We received delivery for another aircon, dryer, hob hood and oven today and also see the repair work from the management on our front and maid's toilet door. I briefed the worker on where to put the lights and fan, since our contractor couldn't make it last minute. The progress for Day 2 is pretty good. Oh ya, forgot to mention that they started plaster ceiling work on Wednesday.

Hopefully by tomorrow all the lights will be up. I've got the color chart and need to pick some colors for the two smaller rooms. After 226, we went to IKEA to pay for the wardrobe but their stock have not arrived, so we bought whatever we could first, and will have to wait. This time, I better call first to make sure their stock is in, else wasted trip again. AFter IKEA, we went to Cellini's at Subang and got very good deal for the L-sofa, king sized bed frame and then saw the most perfect, most ideal dining table... tempered black glass top with ruby red fabric chairs with steel legs. So modern, and I couldn't ask for more. Changing from round to rectangular table was only because of the positioning of the downlights, less hassle and I didn't think I'd get such a beauty. But God is great. And full of surprises.

Then we decided to pick their king sized mattress, the lady threw in two free pillows, two free bolsters, I got 7 mini cushions free, and also decided to get a bean bag instead of a free bedside table.

Target delivery end September, hopefully by then the built ins are done. Still waiting for the quotation though. The one from the interior designer downstairs, we decided just for our info, know what the competitors charge and that's it.

Abit upset that the market is still soft, and the asking rental for unit this size is only RM5k plus minus, but all hope is not lost. One unit upstairs got RM8k and that's a great deal. I've seen their unit, nice, tasteful, but just wait... I think 226 can be better... only pray hard that the ROIs are just as good.

Plaster ceiling finally decided

Yesterday was a busy day for me. I checked out yet another unit in the same condo, done by an interior design company and there was a show unit on the 2nd floor. Unlike the first unit I saw, done by this independent "self-proclaimed" interior designer, this unit was quite tastefully done. Simple, without a dining table, but yet the living, foyer and dry kitchen was very impressive with built-ins, focus wall, wall paper.

Quickly after that, I met up with my contractor and the plaster ceiling sifu he brought a long upstairs at our unit. I loaded some of the lights and fan that I bought the other day into the store room too. We cracked our heads over the plaster ceiling design for the dining area, and confirmed the design for the living and walk in area. By the time we moved to the master bedroom, which was also a tricky one because of the aircon location. I was getting agigated and tired, and time was running out as I needed to pop by TTDI to pick up 4 quotations. Don't think my impromptu visit to MBB can be squeezed in.

So finally I decided, on a simple across the whole room plaster ceiling. There!! No more headache.

Contractor will give me workers' details on Saturday, so I can put in the reno application and deposit on Monday, and he will start work on Wednesday, give and take. Yippeee... finally after 1 month of getting the keys, and lotsa discussion, some kinda work can start.

So once the plaster ceiling is up, then it's the lights. The other lights will arrive on Saturday and we will go collect the stock. I will have to call the electrical shops to deliver the aircon sometime next week.

After that discussion, I moved on to TTDI where I dropped in to Quisine Culture first, then Signature Kitchen (to put in the brief), then Kitchen Palace and finally Rowenta. The latest is the most promising. Today, I'm expecting to get another quotation via email from Kuchenmatic (deemed to be the priciest). The other quotations for kitchen cabinets which are already in hand are from Aino (RM28k!), SCI(RM9k) and Aldo (RM16k).

Finished at 615pm and very tired. But happy with the day's progress.

226 Handover of Keys... Finally!

On Thursday, 23rd July 2009, I got a phonecall from the lawyers to say that they've received the last payment of cheque from the bank. So I can officially get my keys that day. I called the agent to make arrangements.

Around 1130am I met with the agency's admin staff to do the handover of keys and manuals. I dropped by the management office to pick up a copy of the fire insurance to pass to the bank in the same trip. The management office have yet to be informed of the change of ownership.

Called the lawyer to inform them. Apparently they've forgotten to apportion out the assessment and quit rent. So looks like we can't start renovations yet, until this is done.

On Saturday, 25th July I showed the unit to our contractor, the same chap who did our previous units. We discussed in detail the lighting requirements, plaster ceilings and I shared with him the general idea of what we want to do to the unit. Then we went upstairs to view the outside of the 25th floor unit, already furnished and then discovered that the door was unlocked. We went in and snap some pictures quickly then left.
